Christmas Greetings from Reg and Jan Hollinger! We hope that our Christmas greeting, offered digitally for the first time, finds you well.
Janice and I have had a wonderful 2008, the highlight of which was the marriage, in June, of Tyler to Kristin Garver. Ohio's beautiful Hocking Hills provided the backdrop for the second Hollinger/Garver union. As most of you know Shona married Kristin's brother Jason only two and a half years earlier.
Tyler and Kristin have settled in an apartment in Columbus near their schools. Tyler continues to teach fourth grade and Kristin first grade in the Worthington City School District. They are exploring the housing market and expect to buy a home within a few months. Ty is beginning graduate school at The Ohio State University in January.
Shona and Jason are still living in Thornville, Ohio. Shona left Licking Valley High School in the fall after six years of science teaching and is now a guidance counselor at West Muskingum High School near Zanesville. Jason is still teaching at Sheridan Middle School in Perry County where he helped coach the high school football team to a perfect season. The team enjoyed a couple of weeks of post season play.
Janice and I did a little redecorating of the empty nest back in the spring and summer and are really enjoying our "like new" spaces. There's still lots to do. We're very pleased that the kids have settled nearby. Shona and Jason are a little over an hour drive away while Ty and Kristin are less then thirty minutes distance from us.
Janice is in her 21st and I am in my 34th year of teaching. We've been at it long enough that we are experiencing "old" educational strategies and techniques as "new" and sometimes "cutting edge" trends. It makes us smile.
Ty and Kristin and Shona and Jason will be with us Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. They will all head to Jason's and Kristin's family in Bellfontaine later in the day. We're adjusting to new traditions. We give thanks in the midst of it all as we look forward to 2009.
Our Christmas prayer is that you and your family will experience all of the blessings of the season :-)
With love,
Reg and Janice
Dear Reg and Jan,
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Leave it to Reg to find a way to avoid the work of writing cards and licking stamps. Wish I'd thought of it first! And getting your children to marry siblings...a stoke of genius. Why I wouldn't be surprised if they start letting teachers retire to collect their pension, but keep right on teaching and getting paid. Is this a great country or what??
I put Kathy and my picture on the blog thing. It was taken earlier this year at Skoma's Restaurant in San Francisco. A memorable spot indeed.
I've not blogged before but willing to give it a try. Is it like a chain letter? Should I expect envelopes with $5 bills to start arriving in my mailbox? Or will I be expected to help some diplomat's son get his father's millions out of Nigeria?
We'll see what happens. When we get the three boys home we'll try and get a picture and send you.
Tell Tyler that it's always party time at Kevin's house on Iuka. You can't miss it...it's the place with all the Natty lite beer bottles out in the front yard. Oh wait a minute, that's just about every house in Columbus.
Later,
Carey
What a blessed and beautiful family you have. Merry Christmas and all our best for the new year!
